21             Logging

MIB Explorer provides a highly configurable and well known logging mechanism, called Log4J from Apache. By default logging is enabled. Logging can be disabled or enabled by using the Log panel of MIB Explorer's user interface (see below). Logged events are shown in the logging table of the Log panel. They can be exported to a text file using the Save As MIB_Explorer_Manual00246.gif button.

21.1            Configuration

1.   Select the Log tab from the tools panel.

2.   Press the Properties MIB_Explorer_Manual00248.gif button. The logging properties window will be displayed.

3.   Enter the maximum number of log records to be held by MIB Explorer in the log table. Zero will disable logging.

4.   Browse through the event tree and assign priorities other than FATAL to the events you want to monitor. Assigning FATAL to the root priority will disable logging for all subtrees in the event hierarchy that do not override that priority.

5.   Press Save to save the settings. The logging properties will be restored when MIB Explorer is started for the next time.
